Apple AI was generating a lot of hype before its recent launch. Unfortunately, all that hype quickly dissipated after the tool fell far short of expectations. The failure has worsened due to the company’s top rivals rolling out better versions. As a result, Apple has become the target of mocking from tech influencers across the globe.
With AI seeming to be the future of electronics, Apple will need to improve its offerings to better compete with companies like Samsung and Google.
Below, we will share five features we hope Apple will implement to improve iPhone AI.
Fix Photo Image Clean-Up
One of the most significant blows to Apple AI came as users began comparing the image clean-up feature to rival phones. The results were ugly, with Apple AI consistently leaving traces of the image that was removed. This ruins pictures and leads iPhone users to disregard the feature entirely.
The vast majority of iPhone users have crowded photo albums. For years, users have requested the ability to clean up photos to remove unwanted objects or people. The hope was that Apple’s latest AI offering would do just that automatically. However, Samsung’s offering appears light years ahead of Apple’s, making the failure even worse.
We see this as one of the most significant issues with Apple AI. While the new feature has a lot of functions, the ability to edit photos is one of the most commonly used. If Apple can fix this quickly, it could keep users happy and loyal to the Apple brand.
Better Message Summaries
Apple highlighted the message summary AI feature when announcing the new product. However, the results have been laughable. Apple AI often misunderstands text messages, providing recaps that don’t represent what the message said.
While text recaps weren’t one of Apple AI’s biggest selling points, they are a feature people are excited about. The feature can help people check in on messages without needing time to read them individually. However, AI delivers confusing and often incorrect recaps that force users to open and read each message.
Encouraging Healthy Gaming Habits
If Apple is looking for meaningful ways to apply its AI technology in real-world scenarios, responsible gaming could be a unique and impactful avenue. The rapid expansion of online sports gaming across much of the U.S. has brought with it a rise in concerns over problem gaming. Several states have introduced self-exclusion programs and are exploring AI-based tools to help identify risky behavior patterns.
While the gaming industry continues to grow in North America, particularly in the U.S., in Canada remains more regulated and limited, with access currently available primarily in provinces such as Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec. The scope and competition of these markets vary significantly compared to the U.S.
AI already plays a role in responsible gaming, with several sportsbooks using it to monitor gaming behavior and flag signs of addiction. Although Apple is not active in online gaming in Canada, its advanced AI capabilities could support broader responsible tech initiatives, offering a chance to differentiate its AI not just through performance, but through social responsibility.
Better Integration with Siri
While the above features should be easy for Apple to fix, other companies will continue to make upgrades to their own. That means Apple will remain behind their top rivals, but we see a path for them to return to the top.
Better integration with Siri would go a long way. Google has recently unveiled Gemini, an AI program that makes it feel like you are speaking with a real person. This allows users to ask questions and get answers with ease.
Apple has had intelligent assistant Siri for years, but we were disappointed with its integration into Apple Intelligence. While it has slightly improved Siri’s answers, it is a far cry from the industry-changing Gemini.
Mental Health Resources
We have a mental health crisis unfolding in North America, but Apple could help change that. The company could help update its AI with better tools to detect struggling users. An improved ability to read search histories and text messages could help reach out to those struggling before it is too late.
This is another area where conversations with Siri could help. Many people suffering from mental illness feel alone, but the ability to speak with Siri could change that. While it doesn’t offer the same warmth as a real person, it could be an outlet for people looking to talk to someone without judgment.
