Some fresh fruit smoothies with high nutritional value also help, along with having fiber-rich foods (preferably oatmeal, fruits or vegetables) and, if necessary, stool softeners to avoid postpartum constipation.

3. Taking Care of Your Mental and Emotional Well-Being

Your feelings and thoughts mean just as much as your physical state. You might feel emotional or have the “baby blues.” You might consider therapy with someone who specializes in postpartum depression. Also, talking with those who have had the same experience and are either in therapy or support groups also proves helpful. You should not feel all those emotions all alone—interactions with other mothers who understand can ease them up.

4. Treating Your Body With Care

Listening to your body and treating it with care can significantly boost your confidence during these days. For sore areas, you can use ice packs and witch hazel pads, along with postpartum essentials like peri bottles and mesh underwear. It’s wise to stock up on these before your baby arrives. Even small comforts—like soft, well-fitting underpants—can lift your mood and help you feel more at ease in your body. You might also hear about surgeries like a mommy makeover in Kansas City, or in your area. Everyone has different ideas about what it looks like to treat themselves. Just know that being kind to yourself and treating your body with care is important.
